New Zealand National Cricket Team Vs Bangladesh National Cricket Team ODI

New Zealand will aim to take an early advantage in the three-match ODI series against Bangladesh by winning two matches quickly. Their batsmen such as Will Young, Henry Nicholls and Tom Blundell need to rise up against Bangladesh’s spinners and shine.

Najmul Shanto made an impressive first mark as captain of Bangladesh, scoring 100 on his inaugural captaincy debut and is keen to build upon this excellent start in this series.

Bangladesh vs New Zealand

Bangladesh will hope to leverage their victory against Pakistan by using that momentum as fuel for red-ball cricket success, yet India holds an overwhelming head-to-head record against them, so making waves in 2024 may prove difficult for Bangladesh, particularly when it comes to one day internationals (ODIs).

Asian minnows made their international debut in 1979 but it wasn’t until the 2000s that they established themselves on the International Cricket Council circuit with both Test and one-day international status. Led by veteran Mashrafe Mortaza, Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal who helped them develop winning habits in one-day internationals, Asian minnows rose rapidly through Test cricket until becoming regular fixtures on both these stages of cricket’s competitions.

Bangladesh took an impressive win against Sri Lanka with an excellent run chase led by Towhid Hridoy’s 40-ball effort in their inaugural group-stage match, before making up ground against South Africa thanks to Rishad Hossain’s career-best leg spinner spell and Nuwan Thushara (3/22). Both performances helped secure victory.

New Zealand have proved themselves formidable at home conditions in this tournament. They swept Pakistan away earlier in the tournament and have yet to experience defeat away from home this tournament. Their domestic T20 competition, the Super Smash, is amongst one of the toughest and most competitive in the world; thus ensuring they will be fully prepared for such high-intensity encounters.

Match Schedule

New Zealand and Bangladesh will compete in a two-match Test series this month. The first game will take place at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium while the second will take place at Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka. New Zealand holds an unrivaled head-to-head record against Bangladesh in Test matches, winning 13 of 17 encounters while also fighting to a draw three times.

This series will serve as an integral preparation for the 2023 World Cup, where both sides aim to reach the semi-finals. Bangladesh will look to make amends for their recent defeat against New Zealand in an ODI series by winning both matches against them this time.

Rain rendered play impossible during the opening ODI, yet New Zealand were able to win easily in subsequent ODIs thanks to Tom Blundell’s 68 runs and Ish Sodhi’s bowling skills.

Bangladesh have named a 15-member Test squad led by Najmul Hossain Shanto for the 2019 Test series against Australia. Players such as Mushfiqur Rahim, Litton Das, Anamul Haque, Soumya Sarkar, Khaled Ahmed, Mominul Haque, Shadman Islam Mahmudul Hasan Joy Mehidy Hasan Miraz Mustafizur Rahman and Shoriful Islam will feature prominently. Young fast bowler Hasan Mahmud also joins his debut. Hasan Mahmud makes his debut with his inclusion, marking his ODI debut.

Predictions

On Saturday, Bangladesh and New Zealand will play their second ODI of their series at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. Rain halted play of the first one-dayer without any play taking place; Mustafizur Rahman and Nasum Ahmed took two wickets each to limit Black Caps scoring to 136 for five in 33.4 overs before rain ended the contest prematurely.

Bangladesh will look to build on their impressive 150-run win in Sylhet by scoring another convincing victory here. Taijul Islam led Bangladesh with three half centuries, while Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mahmudullah and Mehidy Hasan Miraz all contributed by scoring half centuries and helping secure Bangladesh their maiden series victory against New Zealand at home.

Bangladesh will be missing several first-choice players for this series against Pakistan, but that should not hinder their victory. They possess enough talent in the side to compete with any side on any given day and should benefit from an ostensibly spin-friendly pitch as play progresses; additionally, Bangladesh batsmen will hope to improve on an underwhelming start against them in game one of this tournament.

Bangladesh is a full member of the International Cricket Council with Test, One-Day international and Twenty20 status. Their national cricket team, known as Bangla Tigers, is administered by their Cricket Board.

Bangladesh are one of the premier limited overs cricket teams, having captured three ODI and T20I titles between 1998 and 1999, including hosting tournaments such as ICC KnockOut Trophy and World Cup where their Tigers scored one of history’s biggest upsets against Pakistan.

In 73 tests, India have won only three matches; their record in one-day internationals (ODIs) is far better, winning 72 of their 159 matches to date and reaching quarter-finals of every World Cup they’ve participated in.

Bangladesh batsmen struggled on Day 4 of the first Test against New Zealand to make inroads on an ambitious 515 run target, highlighted by an encouraging 62-run partnership between Shakib Al Hasan and Zakir Hasan; however, their joy was short lived as wickets fell at regular intervals and captain Shanto’s wicket fell too soon after this. Bangladesh ended their innings on 194/4 – hoping for their first win against New Zealand this tour – stay tuned for all updates from this game!
